FREE! "Train the Trainer" Elementary Coaches and Middle/High School Booster Training - August 4-7

FREE "Train the Trainer"
Wyoming Booster T4T & Coaches Training
August 6-7 at the Riverton Library!
Middle/High School: August 4-5
Elementary: August 6-7

Many of you are interested in programs that can help the youth, so I wanted to share an exciting opportunity with you all for a school- and community-based youth resiliency program that is quickly gaining traction around the state.

This August, the Maternal Child Health Unit of WDH is funding Train-the-Trainer opportunities for Sources of Strength at the Riverton, WY Library. August 4-5 will be a Secondary Booster Training for Sources of Strength Trainers who have already attended a T4T to work with middle and high school students. August 6-7 will be an Elementary Coaches Training that will certify individuals to implement the elementary program in their school or organization.

All training fees are covered by MCH. You would just be responsible for travel. To register, go to this link and click on the "Register Now" button: https://health.wyo.gov/publichealth/mch/youthandyoungadult-health/adolescent-suicide-prevention/

Sources of Strength is a strength-based, upstream resiliency program that teaches youth how to lean on their Sources of Strength--Family Support, Positive Friends, Mentors, Healthy Activities, Generosity, Spirituality, Physical Health, and Mental Health--to get through life's challenges. It is typically implemented in schools, by school staff and students, but can be implemented in community organizations that work closely with youth. The evidence base for this program is very strong and includes a finding that it "Significantly reducded new suicide attempts by 29%" among high school students. To learn more about the Sources of Strength program, visit their site at sourcesofstrength.org

If you work with youth in your community, whether through a school or a youth-serving organization, I highly recommend that you register for the training to learn more about Sources (please note, only those who are already trained should register for the secondary training, but those who have not been trained may register for the elementary one). If you know anyone else who might be interested, pass this along to them.

Thanks and have a great day!
