RPD: SCAMS & FAKE NEWS

SCAMS & FAKE NEWS - The Riverton Police Department is aware of several social media postings showing some fake news in town as well as news which has affected our community.

We will clarify some of the most recent postings that we are aware of:
"Breaking News - Body Cam" CLICK-HERE TO WATCH POLICE VIDEO - Some of our postings have had a "Police Video" or some link to "CLICK ON". This is a link which can compromise your Facebook passwords if you click on it. The Police Department would NOT post any videos on our social media.
ICE RAIDS in Riverton - Recent national news regarding border policies has stirred up concerns locally. To clarify, the Riverton Police Department has NOT been working with ICE. Facebook rumors of local officers checking migrant status of children walking to school is false. Our officers will only verify identity of people suspected of violating state and local laws (Shoplifting, Domestic Violence, drunk-driving, speeding etc).
POLICE SEARCHING FOR MURDER SUSPECTS - A Facebook posting of officers searching for a couple suspected of knocking on doors and murdering people in Riverton Wyoming is false. There are no such incidents occurring.
POLICE SEARCHING for parents of a toddler walking the streets in Riverton. We do not have a child in our custody who was reported to be wearing a diaper and found walking the streets. There have been several Facebook postings depicting two officers in a uniform and holding a child. These are not Riverton Officers and many police agencies have had their departments named in these fake picture/news.
TOLL ROAD violations - Many people have received a TEXT message saying they needing to send money for violating one of our local toll roads. There are no TOLL ROADS in Riverton and this is also a SCAM to get your money. Real TOLL ROAD violations are required to send the registered owner a photograph of the toll-road violator along with the bridge/toll way which the vehicle allegedly crossed without paying. Unless you have your cell phone number on your front windshield, the toll-roads would NOT have your cell number. Unfortunately some people do a lot of traveling and end up paying the scammer with an on-line banking app without checking into the violation.
Official Postings will be on our Facebook Page or TextMyGov app.

Inspired by a true story, “Bright Star” weaves a poignant tale of love and redemption against the vibrant backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 1940s.
When literary editor Alice Murphy encounters a young soldier returning home from World War II, their meeting reignites her yearning for the child she once lost. Bound by an inexplicable connection, Alice embarks on a soul-stirring quest to unravel her past, discovering revelations that have the potential to transform their lives forever.
With enchanting melodies and deeply compelling characters, “Bright Star” unfolds as a rich tapestry of profound emotion, drawing audiences into its spellbinding narrative. This uplifting theatrical experience embraces you with its authenticity and emboldens you with its unwavering hopefulness.
If you are interested in participating in this production please come and audition. Bring a song in the style of the show (Bluegrass or Classic Country) or a song from the Golden Age of Broadway 1943 Oklahoma -1964 Hello Dolly.
Your audition song should be a verse and a chorus of the song you are singing. You may be asked to read from the script or sing from the score so be very familiar with Bright Star and the original cast recording from 2016.
